ACTIVITY 1
Reduce, ReUse, Recycle
Standards: 13.B.1e Demonstrate ways to reduce, reuse and recycle materials.
After explaining reducing, re-using, and recycling, break students into 3 groups. Each group is assigned one of these three terms. Each student will then make a poster pertainging to their assigned concept. Magazines and newspapers will be "reused" when making collages on "recycled" paper. These posters will be displayed in the school hallways.
Materials: recycled paper, glue, scissors, magazines and newspapers
ACTIVITY 2
Food Chain
Standards:12.B.1b Describe how living things depend on one another for survival.
As a basic explanation of the food chain, bring in a leaf, a caterpillar, and a bird (stuffed animal). Gather the students around a table to observe the caterpillar. Discuss what it eats (the leaf) and what would eat it (the bird). Have each student sketch the linear food chain of these three things in their science journals:
